Regional Media Movie Review Moonlight

Moonlight tells the story of Chiron as he grows up poor in the Miami inner city. Chiron's mother, Naomie Harris, is addicted to crack and his only escape comes when he is taken in by his mother's dealer Juan (Mahershala Ali). We watch Chiron through three phases of his life, played by three different actors as he grows up and begins to question his sexuality. Here is my review of Moonlight.

Regional Media Movie Review Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk stars Joe Allwyn as Billy Lynn, an Army Specialist who rockets to fame when a video of him attempting to save a fellow soldier goes viral. The fame leads to his company, Bravo Company being sent home and sent on a rock star-esque tour to talk about their experience in war. The tour culminates at a Thanksgiving Day Football game where Bravo Company is put on stage with Destiny's Child. All the while the film cuts back to what happened in Iraq, when Billy attempted to save his Sgt, played by Vin Diesel, and cuts to Billy's life at home with his anti-war sister played by Kristen Stewart.

Regional Media Movie Review Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them stars Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a seeker of magical creatures. Newt has dedicated his life to protecting magical creatures and has come to New York in order to help one of his creatures get back home. Unfortunately, a series of events leads to some of his own creatures getting loose and wreaking havoc in the city. Kathryn Waterston plays a magic detective who tries to bust Newt for transporting magical animals and Dan Fogler plays a muggle, or as they're known in America, a No-Mag, who gets sucked into Newt's story as his unwitting sidekick. Here's my review of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Regional Media Movie Review Bleed for This

Bleed for This stars Miles Teller in the life story of boxer Vinny Pazienza who in 1991 was in a near fatal car accident that many thought would be the end of of his championship boxing career. Undaunted, Vinny defied his doctors and instead of undergoing career ending spinal fusion surgery, chose to get a Halo, a device drilled into his skull to hold his neck in place while it healed. If Vinny were to move the wrong way he could have severed his spinal chord. Vinny risked permanent paralyisis to start training again to make a miraculous return to boxing. Here is my review of Bleed for this.

Regional Media Movie Review Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four

Did you know that legendary drive in movie director Roger Corman produced a Fantastic Four movie? He did in the early 1990's and it was never released to theaters or DVD. Corman made the movie with a company called Constantin Films which had obtained the film rights to The Fantastic Four for a bargain basement price and when the rights were about to expire they paid Corman's production company to slap together a Fantastic Four movie on the cheap before the option expired. The movie was made and then hidden away... or so they thought. After not being released after it was produced the film found life on the internet where someone smuggled a copy and began trading it around leading many to reassess the film's unique legacy and even a call for the film to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray. The fun and fascinating documentary about the making of this movie is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD and On-Demand and here is my review of Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Madds Mikkelsen co-star. Here is my review of Doctor Strange.
