The Princeville Princessses are headed to State for the second year in a row after winning the Sterling Supersectional in 1A softball on Monday.

Princeville defeated Dakota 16-6 in six innings to pick up the victory.

In girls high school softball on Thursday, Galva defeated Illini Bluffs 1-0 and Princeville defeated Abingdon-Avon 11-1 at the Illini Bluffs Sectional.

Galva will play Princeville on Saturday for that sectional championship.

The Chicago Cubs got two RBI each from Kyle Schwarber and Anthony Rizzo as the Cubs topped Cincinnati on Wednesday night by a final of 7-5.

The Cubs wrap their series with the Reds with a 1:20 game this afternoon at Wrigley Field with the game live on Newstalk 1450 WKEI

In boys high school baseball on Thursday, Annawan-Wethersfield scored 10 in the bottom of the 6th to defeat Rowva-Williamsfield 14-11 at Oneida. With the win, the Titans finish 13-3  to tie for the top spot in the LTC along with Ridgewood and Mercer County.

In major league baseball on Sunday, the New York Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-4 in 18 innings at Wrigley Field.

The game did not end until 1:15 Monday morning and the Cubs and the Yankees broke the Major League Baseball record for combined strikeouts with 48.

In girls high school softball on Thursday, Annawan-Wethersfield topped Galva 10-7 and Erie-Prophetstown defeated the Kewanee Boilergirls in five by a final of 12-0.
