Monday night's Kewanee City Council Meeting became quite tense as the subject of placing solar panels on top of Kewanee City Hall and other municipal buildings turned into an argument over City Council procedure before ending up in a unanimous vote in favor of pursuing a solar energy deal with Clean Energy Design Group. Council Member Mike Yaklich began the discussion by asking to table the question regarding the authorization for the Mayor and City Manager to pursue a deal for solar energy because only one proposal was provided to the City Council...

Councilman Yaklich continued from there to underline his point that the Council usually works from a place with more than one proposal for a particular service provided...

Councilman Chris Colomer argued against tabling the authorization arguing that the time to act on solar is now and defending the bid from Clean Energy Design Group as costing the city of Kewanee nothing...

Kevin Yepsen, representative from Clean Energy Design Group, would eventually speak and discuss points in the deal that eventually did convince Councilman Yaklich to withdraw his tabling request and vote in favor of the deal, but Mr Yaklich maintained that his issue was with the lack of competing bids other than that from Clean Energy Design Group and not with the idea of solar or the bid from Clean Energy Design Group in particular.
