When the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation raised funds and dedicated the Memorial Wall in Downtown Springfield, they hoped to honor fallen troopers of the past, they didn't expect to add new names so soon. This morning, they honored one of the three troopers killed in the line of duty this year, Trooper Gerald Ellis. Ellis was killed in March when witnesses say he intercepted a wrong way driver on I-94 in the Chicago suburb of Green Oaks. Witnesses say he put his vehicle in the path of the driver to spare another family driving in that lane. Governor J.B. Pritzker reflected on Ellis' career....

The Governor says Ellis wasn't just defined by the courage and selflessness of his final moments.....

The other driver in the crash also died. His blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. Ellis was a native of the Macomb area.
