Some Republicans are already pushing against any possible plan to raise the state’s gasoline tax. In post-election chatter ideas have been tossed around to hike the gas tax in Illinois up to 30 cents a gallon. The increased revenue would most likely be used for an infrastructure plan. Representative Allen Skillicorn of Crystal Lake says any plans need to be put on hold. 

Illinois fuel tax hasn’t been increased in almost 30 years. The state taxes fuel in two different ways… at 19 cents a gallon and with a rate of 6.25 percent sales tax.
