A quick update on how the cleanup efforts went. There was a great showing, with more than 300 vehicles taking part in the event. They collected more than 13,500 pounds of scrap metal and in excess of 60,000 pounds of other junk and debris. The event could not have happened without the help of OSF Healthcare, which allowed use of the site, Murphy’s Container Service, which donated the use of containers and hauled them, and Cernovich’s Salvage for facilitating the quick removal of the scrap metal. The city would like to thank Boss Gloves for donating work gloves, Culligan for their donation of bottled water, and of course the volunteers who gave their time to help make the event such a success.
Work will soon begin on a spring-cleanup event that will hopefully be bigger and better.
