Maxine H. Kallas, 90, of Kewanee, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Kewanee Care. Maxine was born August 4, 1927 in Kewanee, the daughter of Roy and Dorothy (Hyers) Gleason. She graduated from Kewanee High School. Maxine married Mikeal Kallas on September 1, 1947 in LeSalle, IL, he preceded her in death on June 18, 2012.
Maxine is survived by two daughters, Catherine Buckwalter, Moline, IL, Carol (Rick) See, Bloomington, IL; four grandchildren, Carrie (Butch) Lingafelter, Chad (Corry) Buckwalter, Craig (Jennifer) Buckwalter, Devon (Eric) Stangland; and six great grandchildren, Blake, Ella, Vivianna Lingafelter, Calvin Stangland, Celia and Drew Buckwalter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Eldon Gleason; and aunts and uncles.
Maxine was a nurse’s aid for Kewanee Public Hospital retiring sometime in the 80’s. Prior to that she was a homemaker, worked at Smith’s Bakery, and helped at the Chestnut Gun Shop. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, word searches, and puzzles. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee and the United Methodist Women’s Society.
Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service, Monday, January 15, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee. Funeral Services will be 11 am, Monday, January 15, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church. Pastor Paul Copeland will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
