Lawrence Lee Ebens, 93, of Kewanee died at 7:12 pm Sunday, October 29, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, November 3, 2017 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Reverend Paul Copeland of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the time of service on Friday. Lawrence was born December 19, 1923 in Oregon, Il, the son of Madis and Elizabeth (Hitchcock) Ebens. After attending Nashua grade school in Oregon, he graduated in 1940 from Oregon High School. Larry joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 and flew as a gunman in a B24 aircraft from Germany and England until 1946. While in the service he married Carolyn Cornelissen on December 23, 1945, in Tucson. She preceded him in death on February 10, 2012.
After returning to Kewanee in 1946, Larry worked in a body shop, at the Walworth foundry, and in construction until he became a claims adjuster for County Companies in 1952. He worked there until 1986 when he retired. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the Masonic Temple. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cubs, as well as playing golf and bowling. Larry liked to sing and dance as well as play poker, play bingo, and spend a little time at the gambling boat!
Lawrence is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane (Guy) Gibson of Geneseo, Il., Kathy (Jerry) Fidler of Dunlap, Il.; a son, Steve (Gail) Ebens of Atkinson, Il; grandchildren, Philip Moats, Susan Moats, Autumn Janey and Michelle Gibson; great-grandchildren, Austin Moats, Madison Moats, Alyssa Merritt, Dylan Moats, LJ Janey, Jaxon Janey and Jonah Janey; sister, Gloria; brother, Ronnie (Sylvia) Ebens; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn; brother, Robert; and sisters Harriet and Helen.
