Obituaries

Sandra A. “Sandy” Manthe, 75, of rural Kewanee, IL, died at her home on Saturday, September 9, 2017.  Sandy was born on June 13, 1942 in Miami, Fl. The daughter of John and Margarita [Fernandez] Walker.  Sandy graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Mary Crest College and her Masters from the University of Illinois.  Sandy was employed by Kewanee School Dist. #229 as a first-grade teacher at Central School for 32 years.  She retired in 2004.

Sandy married Jim Manthe at the Church of Peace in Kewanee on July 22, 1996.  He survives along with three sons Kirk (Lorie) Manthe of Kewanee, David (Rhonda) Manthe of Geneseo, and Jason (Jeanie) Manthe of Peoria.  Five grandchildren Jessica, Ian, Liz, Lexie and Eddie Craig, a nephew Dale Walker and a niece Lorraine Hart, a brother-in-law Paul Manthe of Kewanee, a sister-in-law Kathy (Robert) Hefner of Creve Coeur, Il. As well as nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter Evan Manthe and a brother John Milton Walker.

Sandy was a member of the Church of Peace, rural Kewanee where she also taught Sunday School.  She loved flower gardening and was a member of the Kewanee Garden Club.  Sandy was involved in the Manthe family sheep business and could be seen at county fairs; State fairs and national livestock shows with their Columbia Sheep.  Sandy enjoyed hosting family gatherings, she adored her grandchildren and spending time with her family.  She was a fan of the Miami Dolphins and the Fighting Illini.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Church of Peace, rural Kewanee.  Pastor Dan Craig will officiate.   Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a teacher’s scholarship at KHS in Sandy’s name.  The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il.
