Obituaries

COL Willard Beattie Mannon, USAF (Ret.), of Clearwater, FL, departed on his Final Flight on 4 November 2010. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted by Kewanee Veterans Council at 11 a.m. Friday, 15 September in Elmira Cemetery. Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born 28 March 1916 in Kewanee, IL. Upon graduation from the University of Illinois he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1939 and was commissioned an officer in the US Army Air Forces in 1942. He spent WWII in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago. He retired as a Colonel from the US Air Force.

His wife, Elaine Christian Mannon, whom he met and wed in Oahu, Hawaii in 1943, preceded him in death in 2001.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Mannon German and her husband Michael of Alexandria, VA, and Kathryn Mannon Kollmeyer of Dallas, TX; two grandsons, Michael II and Christopher German, both of Alexandria, VA, three great-granddaughters, Madeline, Sophia, and Emma German, and one great-grandson, Correy German.
