Obituaries

Shirley A. Rodak, 84, of Kewanee, died at 8:58 am, Thursday, September 7, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. Shirley was born November 21, 1932 in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Edward and Constance (Kapacinskas) Blackledge. She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing. Shirley married Anton Rodak at St. Anthony’s Church in Kewanee on October 18, 1953, he preceded her in death on February 7, 2007.

 

Surviving is one son, Tony Rodak, Kewanee; one daughter, Mary Kay (Tom) Crawford, Bloomington, IL; one granddaughter, Amy Rodak, Springfield, IL; step-granddaughters, Jenna Crawford, and Jessica (Bryan) Nussbaum; step-great grandchildren, Emma and Sarah Kirkwood, and Abraham and Luna Nussbaum all of Bloomington, IL. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a daughter-in-love, Teresa Stout.

 

Shirley was employed as an RN at St. Francis Hospital, Hillcrest Nursing Home, and various other nursing homes throughout Kewanee. She enjoyed being part of the altar and rosary society at St. Francis of Assisi, quilting, crocheting, and making pies. She was cook of the week for the Star Courier. Shirley loved spending time with her friends and family.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Father Jerry Rafalko will officiate. A private family burial will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday, September 11, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Holy Trinity Parish, Kewanee, IL or OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, IL. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and friend and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
