Marilyn Quagliano, 90, of Kewanee passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Liberty Village in Princeton, IL.
Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father Johndamaseni Zilimu will be officiating. There will be no public visitation. Burial will be private in East Moline, IL.
Marilyn was born February 24, 1927 in Joliet, IL, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth McCarthy. She grew up in Sterling and graduated from Newman High School, attended numerous Chicago schools and completed her studies in education at Illinois State University.
As a young teacher, Marilyn met Dr. Michael Quagliano in Kewanee on a blind date set up by Mary Remick at Dr. Quagliano’s request; this resulted in 58 beautiful years of marriage, four children, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Among Marilyn’s many passions, the greatest were her love for her family and teaching.
Her 40 year career as a teacher at Kewanee High School and Visitation touched many students. Kewaneeans remember her best as a director of class plays and creator of theatrical productions like the “High Fever Follies” and “Stand Up and Cheer” all to fund local school projects.
She is survived by her three sons, Patrick, New York, NY; Michael Drew, Louisville, KY; Dr. Timothy (Shannon), Dubuque, IA; and daughter, Julie (Mark) Westemeier, Arlington, VA; 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joseph (Sally) Quagliano, Manlius, IL; and sister-in-laws, Teresa Kapka, Niles, IL, and Judy Quagliano, Kewanee, IL. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Michael Quagliano in 2012.
The family is forever grateful to the exceptional staff and loving caregivers at Liberty Village in Princeton, IL, and her brother-in-law, Joseph and wife Sally Quagliano, for daily visits with treats and endless card games.
Memorials shall be directed to Visitation Forever Fund for Visitation Catholic School. Please leave an online condolence for Marilyn’s family at www.schuenemantumblesonfuneralhome.com.
