Gerald “Jerry” Charlet 75, of Kewanee Il, died at 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his home. Jerry was born April 29, 1942, the son of Earl Charlet and Anne (Scoville) Hammersmith. He attended Wethersfield Schools. Surviving is his daughter Kelli (Jason) DeSplinter of Annawan, and his grandchildren Wyatt and Shelby DeSplinter, and Jerry’s companion dog “Blue”. Also surviving his children from a previous marriage, Gerri Ann Confair, Robin Grayson, Earl Charlet, Robert Charlet with numerous grandchildren; also surviving is one brother Dennis “Dink” Harbin, formerly of Kewanee and one sister, Cheryl Lowe of LA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry was a laborer for Local 852, retired from Public Works Department for the city of Kewanee. After he retired from the city he was self-employed. He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Kewanee, the American Legion, and enjoyed spending time with his daughter, grandchildren, and friends. He considered himself a self-appointed “city manager” of the city of Kewanee. Jerry enjoyed life to its fullest.
A celebration of life visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. There will be a reception following at the Flemish American Club, Kewanee. Private burial will be in the Wyoming Illinois Cemetery Pastor Terry Lancaster will officiate.
