Joan S. VanDeRostyne, 77, of Kewanee, passed away at 1:51 AM, Sunday, April 15, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 18 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 17 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt, Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society.
She was born March 20, 1935 in Kewanee, the daughter of Howard and Mildred (Frye) Vandemark. She married David E. VanDeRostyne on June 18, 1955 in Kewanee. Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Jody (David) Clayes of Kewanee and a granddaughter, Shannon. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert and four sisters, Betty, Dorothy, Margaret and Beverly.
Joan graduated from Kewanee High School in 1953. She worked at GTE as an operator and then later in the office. She was of the Catholic faith and she enjoyed attending the GTE Retirees breakfasts and luncheons and doing flower arranging. She had arranged many floral wreaths for the Kewanee Veterans Council and also did flowers for Prom, Homecoming and Mid-Winter dances.
