Betty J. Kipp, 87, of Geneseo, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 am on Monday August 25, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Geneseo. Rev. Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. A visitation for Betty will be from 2-4 pm on Sunday at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo, where an Order of Eastern Star service will be held at 4 pm. Additional visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday from 9:30-10:30am. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or Annawan /Alba Township Library.
Betty was born on September 2, 1926 in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Good) Johnson. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1944 and Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 as a registered nurse. She served our country in the US Cadet Nurse Corp during WWII. She was united in marriage to Alden P. Kipp on August 19, 1951 in Geneseo. He preceded her in death in 2013. Betty started her nursing career at Hammond-Henry Hospital on the medical/surgery floor from 1947-48. She then attended summers at the University of Minnesota to become a certified public health Nurse. She returned to Geneseo to become the school nurse for Geneseo schools.
Betty was a life-long member and very active at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and belonged to church circles and councils. She was also very active in her community being part of Alba Home Extension, Henry County youth committee, and doing blood pressures for senior citizens. She was a member of the Geneseo Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic 33rd Degree Wives Club, and the Annawan/Alba Library Board. Betty also made over 1000 bears for the Hammond-Henry Hospital ER and was the nurse for the Red Cross blood mobile for Annawan and Geneseo
She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Terry) Lancaster, Annawan; sons: James (Susan) Kipp, Richmond, KY, Paul (Chris) Kipp, Carol Stream, IL; grandchildren: Nicholas (Tricia) Lancaster, Kristin (Luke) Nanninga, Amanda (Brad) Williams, Anne Kipp, Anders Kipp, Elizabeth Kipp, Alexa (Tok) Moffat, James Kipp; great grandchildren: Jackson Nanninga, Caroline Williams, Wyatt Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alden, her sister Myrtle Bessant, and her brothers Harold Johnson and Herbert Johnson.
