W. Gail Glenn, 85, of Geneseo passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Hammond Henry Hospital Emergency Room, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating Gail’s life will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Geneseo Evangelical Free Church, Geneseo. Rev. Frank Brozenec and Rev. Stephen Palm will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo where military honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post 5083. Visitation for Gail will be 5-8 PM Wednesday, July 23rd at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Gail Glenn Memorial Fund.
Gail was born May 24, 1929 in Laurel, Indiana the son of William and Laura (Rodgers) Glenn. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Carol M. Flaherty on November 2, 1952 in Amboy, IL. Gail worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator and supervisor at the Silvis Garage for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He attended the Geneseo Evangelical Free Church. Gail was a member of the American Legion and a lifelong member of the NRA. He loved his 1929 Model A, was a talented woodworker, and loved spending time with his entire family.
Survivors include his wife: Carol; son: Lawrance (Terri) Glenn of Rockton, IL; daughters: Cinda Backlund Fisher (Douglas) of Jackson, WY and Debra (David) Jones of Geneseo; 10 grandchildren: Kara, Adam, Kurt, Laura, Annie, Sarah, Jacob, Gayle, Katie, Benjamin; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers: Russell Glenn of Dixon, IL and Howard (Marion) Glenn of Dixon; sisters: Opal (Bill) Schaneberg of Franklin Grove, IL and Doris Ail of Amboy, IL.
Gail was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
