GALVA - Johnny “John” Kenneth Rider, 67, of Galva, died at 12:45 AM, Sunday, May 25, 2014 at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.
Cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 7 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers following the service. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
He was born June 24, 1946 in Weaver, WV, the son of Jim and Mary (Brady) Rider. He had married Sandra M. Coco and she preceded him in death in 2007. Survivors include a son, Daniel VanHorn of Peoria, five daughters, Nancy (Herbert) Dailey of Galva, Melissa “Missy” (James) Foster of Neponset, Denise (Jerry) Capps of Cambridge, Michele (Chuck) Alth of Belington, WV and Tina (Dan) Boyett of Akron, OH, three sisters, Ina Ruth Skidmore of Hinton, WV, Lou (Jim) Wiseman of South Carolina and Eva (John) Karakiozis of West Virginia, thirty-four grandchildren, several great grandchildren, three great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald, two sons, Walter and Boyd and a great granddaughter.
John served his country in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He had worked as a truck driver, at Pines in Kewanee and at Galva Discount Liquor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching wrestling and especially his dog, “Paris.” This obituary may be viewed and private condolences left at Rux Funeral Home.
