GALVA - Lois Lundeen, 97, of Galva, died at 6:05 PM, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Courtyard Estates in Galva.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 28 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva. Rev. David Schweppe and Pastor Bob Curry will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church Window Fund. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.
She was born May 19, 1917 in rural Galesburg, the daughter of Guy and Laura (Watters) Adcock. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1933 and attended Western Illinois University earning a teaching certificate. She then taught school at a rural one room schoolhouse. She met and married Elner Lundeen on June 26, 1938 and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1996. Surviving are her daughters, Peggy (Blaine) Johnson of Laguna Niguel, CA and Bonny (Richard) Bartelt of West Des Moines, IA, her grandchildren, Scott (Carroll) Johnson, Mark Johnson, Jon (Julie) Bartelt, Jay (Monica) Bartelt and Mary (John) Smith, twelve great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister in infancy, two brothers and their wives, Everett and Louise Adcock and Rollin and Edith Adcock.
Lois was a lady of many talents. She was an avid golfer and played regularly at Lake Calhoun into her mid-80's. She became an insurance agent after raising her daughters and ran the office of the Lundeen Insurance Agency for 25 years. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and embroider, leaving her family with many items to treasure. Her favorite, starting in the 1980's was counted cross stitch. Several of her beautiful pieces won awards in competition. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 66 years and after retirement sewed countless hours with her Circle creating lap robes, baby blankets and Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. One of her legacies was making every family member and many special friends an original handmade ornament each Christmas.
