ELMORE - Velma J. Sargent, 73, of Elmore, died at 5:30 AM, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 23 at Elmore Methodist Church and Community Center. Pastor Kristi Hopp will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Elmore. Memorials may be directed to the american Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.
She was born November 17, 1940 in LaFayette, IL, the daughter of Robert and Jessie (Hegwood) Tuthill. She married Wallace “Wally” Sargent Sr. on April 24, 1962 in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1995. Survivors include her son, Wally Sargent Jr. of Elmore, three brothers, Vernon (Patricia) Tuthill and Ivan (Bonnie) Tuthill, both of Kewanee and Les (Sue) Tuthill of Fruita, CO, two sisters, Virginia Peed and Betsy (Terry) Briggs, both of Kewanee and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Donna in infancy, two sisters, Margie Helslander and Juanita Durett, two brother-in-laws, Merlyn Sargent and Dale Tessier, three nephews and one niece.
Velma had worked as an assembler for L.R. Nelson. She was a member of Elmore Methodist Church and Community Center. She enjoyed her church, reading, pets and especially spending time with her son. This obituary may be viewed and private condolences left at www.ruxfuneralhome.com.
