Barbara J. Grymonprez, 83, of Geneseo passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo A Funeral Mass celebrating Barbara’s life will be held 10:30 AM Friday, April 25, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colona. Rev. Steven Bird will celebrate. Burial will follow at Dayton Corners Cemetery, Colona. Visitation for Barbara will be held 5-8 PM Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo where a Scripture service will be held at 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be left to the family who will distribute them to Hillcrest Home and other charities of the family’s choice.
Barbara was born March 27, 1931 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Willard and Opal (Hanna) Sheley. She was united in marriage to Edward Grymonprez on April 22, 1950 in Colona. He preceded her on December 30, 2011. Barb worked as a homemaker and in local flower shops for many years. Her real talent was as a seamstress, constructing special event gowns for many. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colona where she was involved in the St. Martha’s Circle of the Altar and Rosary Society. Barbara was active in school PTA while her children were school age. Barbara was very proud of her family especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Timothy (Shelly) Grymonprez of Port Byron; Ronald (Julie) Grymonprez of Cambridge; Laurie (Randy) Westerlund of Lynn Center. 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother: Bill Sheley of Sherard; sister: Cindy (Ron) Johnson of Moline; sister-in-laws: Elizabeth Heiar of Milan and Gwen Grymonprez of Geneseo; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sister, Ione DePron.
