Genevieve L. “Ginger” Alexander, 90, of Geneseo passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at HeartlandHealthcareCenter in Moline, IL. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 24th at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Ltd., Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. A visitation for Ginger will be 1 hour prior (1:00-2:00pm) to the funeral service. Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 26th at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Alsip, IL. Memorials may be made to the Ginger Alexander Memorial Fund.
Ginger was born March 20, 1923 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Mathias and Cecelia (Norek) Faust. She graduated from ImmaculataHigh School in Chicago and went on to graduate from the University of Illinois. She was united in marriage to Ray Miller in Chicago. He preceded her. She later married John A. Alexander in September 1958 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death in 1996. She worked as a secretary for U.S. Gypsom Co. and then for John Alexander & Assc., in Chicago, IL.
Ginger volunteered at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago for over 25 years. She traveled extensively to many zoos and enjoyed the companionship of her friends during her travels. She enjoyed painting and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her 3 daughters: Rayanne (Stan) Burrack, Geneseo, IL, Nancy Alexander (Larry Wall), Susan Midlil; 5 grandchildren: Laura (Will), David, Alex, Robert, and Elizabeth; her brother, Norman Faust; and her sister, Eileen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: Ray and John, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
