Lamont B. Webster

Lamont B. Webster, 85, of Kewanee, Il. passed away peacefully in Collierville, TN on November 17, 2013. Memorial Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Kewanee, IL, the Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe will officiate. Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Fredonia, NY.at a later date. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services on Saturday at the church. . Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Kewanee, Kewanee Hospital or an education fund for Lamont’s grandchildren. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee IL is in charge of arrangements. Private online condolences may be shared with the family at www.schuenemantumblesonfuneralhome.com.

Lamont was born to Clifford and Irene (Carley) Webster, in Fredonia, NY on August 17, 1928. He married Barbara Saunders Sept. 4, 1954 in Troy, OH She preceded him in death as did his parents and daughters Ann (William) Kammerer and Susan Faye Webster. Lamont attended Fredonia public schools, graduating in 1947, where he was active in student government and sports. He served as High School class president two years and earned varsity letters in three sports. He graduated from The Bryant-Stratton Business Institute, Buffalo, New York in 1949 and following military service he earned a BS Degree in Business Administration and membership in Beta Gamma Sigma at Bowling Green State University in 1956. He was drafted into the US Army in 1950 during the Korean Conflict, served with the 40th Infantry Division in Camp Cooke, California, graduated from the Infantry Officers Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia in 1952 and served in the Army Reserve following the war until separation as a Captain, US Army Reserve. He enjoyed a rewarding career in the farm and outdoor power equipment industry, serving as partner-general manager of a John Deere farm equipment dealership in Fredonia, NY; Midwest regional manager of FMC Corp. Div.; President of Lindsay Bros. Inc., a major farm equipment wholesaler; VP Sales for the Kewanee Farm Equipment Co. and did marketing and consulting projects for farm equipment manufacturers and distributors following his retirement. During his career he was a long time officer and director of the Farm Equipment Wholesalers Association, an active member and frequent speaker in the Farm Equipment Manufacturers Association and in 1992 served as national program director for the Tillage and Crop Production Council of the Farm and Industrial Equipment Institute. Active in community affairs he served on Boards of Directors of the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club (Rotarian of the Year in 2000), YMCA, Area Community Concert Series, Downtown Revitalization Committee and Channel 10 WQPT-TV. He did volunteer work for the Kewanee United Way, Kewanee Public Library, Black Hawk College, Elks Club and was a Kewanee Hospital Blue Coat. He was an active member and Trustee of the Kewanee First Baptist Church. Surviving him are two sons, Bradley (Heidi) of Collierville, TN and Bruce (Kelley) of Hartford, WI. Son-in-law William (Ann) Kammerer of Waukesha, WI and six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He enjoyed time with his family, a wide circle of friends and travel that included trips to six continents
