Joseph Franklin Poole, 83, of Kewanee, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 at Kewanee Hospital Emergency Room. Funeral service celebrating his life will be held 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Vandemore Funeral Homes Ltd., Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Burial will follow in North Cemetery in Geneseo where Military Honors will be accorded by Don Cherry VFW Post #5083. A visitation for Joseph will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday October 29th at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Joseph Poole Memorial Fund.
Joseph was born January 9, 1930 in Jesup, Georgia, the son of Franklin and Doshie Poole. He was one of nine children. He was united in marriage to Moneta Verstrate on August 31, 1963. Joseph proudly served our country in the Korean War. He owned a successful bulldozing business which allowed him to be able to help many farmers. He also helped build roads for many of the local interstates. Later in life he started and ran a dump truck business. Joseph and his family lived in Florida for several years, moving back to Kewanee with his wife when he retired. Joseph was a loving father and husband.
Joseph is survived by his wife Moneta; twin daughters: Jolene Poole, Kewanee, IL, Noreen (Troy) Dailey, New Smyrna Beach, FL; step-son: Bruce Palmer, Peoria, IL; six grandchildren: Taylor Gunn, Lillianna Kelly, Dalton Palmer, Skyler Finnin, Hailey Palmer, Blaze Finnin; 1 brother and 3 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
