Shirley J. Gillam, 84, of rural Princeville, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.She was born December 7, 1928, in Princeville, the daughter of Harry E. and Edna F. Gates Snyder. She married her sweetheart Frank Raymond Gillam on October 26, 1946, in Peoria. He died January 2, 1975, in Peoria.
Surviving are four sons, Larry (Janice) Gillam of Williamsfield, Dennis (Lani) Gillam of Lineville, IA, Raymond Gillam of Princeville, and Don Gillam of Wyoming; two daughters, Linda Detwiler of Bureau, and Dixie Gillam of rural Princeville; 10 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 step great-grandchild; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 3 step great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and lots of friends. Shirley is also expecting a great-grandchild in January. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and four grandchildren.
Shirley loved and cared about each and every one of her family. They were her life and they kept her young at heart.
Cremation will be accorded and a private family burial of ashes will be at Princeville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Heartland Cancer Fund, Diabetes Foundation or Veterans Association.
