Donald E. “Don” Mason, 77, of Geneseo, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Good Samaritan Village in Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating Don’s life will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Geneseo. Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation for Don will be 4-7 PM on Tuesday at Vandemore Funeral Home in Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Donald Mason Memorial Fund.
Don was born April 11, 1936, the son of Fred T. and Ruby (Hadley) Mason. He attended Atkinson High School and was united in marriage to Lois Boehm on June 24, 1956 in Geneseo. She preceded him in 2001. Don later married Marilyn Martins on August 15, 2002 in Branson, MO. He was a lifetime farmer in rural Atkinson and continued to help others with farming after he retired. Don served in the United States National Guard, he had been a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Geneseo and the Atkinson Kiwanis. He enjoyed gardening and loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.
Don is survived by his wife: Marilyn; 3 daughters: Lu (Mark) Murphy of Atkinson, IL, Deb (Tim) Laleman of Geneseo, IL and Christine (John) Bolger of Hahira, GA; 2 sons: Ronald (Michelle) Mason of Jupiter Farms, FL and Randy Mason of Tallahassee, FL; 7 grandchildren: Nick (Lisa) Murphy, Bob (Emily) Murphy, Bridget (Kyle) Peters, Melissa (Brad) Clendenin, Shawn Laleman, Jennifer Mason, and Brian Mason; 3 great-grandchildren: Carson, Harper, and Kendall; and brother: Frederick R. Mason of Port Byron, IL.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lois; and sister, June Mason.
