Dorothy E. Furnald Johnson, 83, of Kewanee, passed away at 5:05 AM, Friday, September 6, 2013 at her home.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 9 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Bob Sherman will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Dorothy Johnson Memorial Fund.
She was born September 6, 1930 in Kewanee, the daughter of Clifford Lee and Edith Violet (Bright) Furnald. She first married Henry Greeve and he preceded her in death. She then married Kenneth L. Johnson on October 3, 1965 in North Hollywood, CA. He survives, as do their children, Amy of Idaho, Edward of California and Rene, Berry and Vickie, all of Washington, a brother, Cliff (Arlene) Furnald of Kewanee and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three nieces, Laurie, Sandra and Crellin.
Dorothy graduated from Kewanee High School in 1948 as Salutatorian, from Bradley University in 1952 as Valedictorian and from Fresno State with her Masters in School Psychology. She had worked as a speech pathologist and a school psychologist for the Kern County California school system and had worked with handicapped children. While at Bradley she taught music, piano and marimba at the Beverly School of Music. Dorothy had her own hand bell choir and had played the marimba at rest homes in California. She was a proficient musician having owned 167 different instruments. During high school she was a member of the Keynoters. She enjoyed traveling and camping.
