Dorothy C. Lievens, 84, of Geneseo, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo, IL. A funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Vandemore Funeral Home in Geneseo. Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation for Dorothy will be 10-11 AM (1 hour prior to the service) on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the First United Methodist Church or the Geneseo Humane Society.
Dorothy was born February 21, 1929 in Yorktown Township, rural Hooppole, IL, the daughter of Reinhardt and Carrie (Porschke) Rahn. She was a 1947 graduate of Geneseo High School and was united in marriage to Lawrence “Sam” Lievens on April 2, 1960 in Geneseo. He preceded her February 20, 2000. Dorothy held several secretarial positions throughout her career retiring in 1987 from Eagle Foods Warehouse in Milan.
Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Geneseo and the Geneseo Women of the Moose Lodge #577. She enjoyed doing “word find” books, bingo, visiting the local casinos, and in her earlier years, going to auctions and flea markets. She was a ceramic and glass chicken collector, as well as other glass collectables.
Survivors include her stepson and daughter-in-law Larry and Kathy Lievens of Hillsdale; sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws Lucille and Kenneth Cathelyn, Eugene and Evelyn Lievens, Richard and Betty Lievens and Betty Lievens, also nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 half-sisters, a half-brother, and a brother-in-law Robert.
