George “Buck” Stone, Jr., 87, of Sheffield, IL passed away and went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at his residence. Buck was born on June 4, 1926 to George E. and Jean (Moore) Stone. He was one of three children
Buck and Lois Jane Murray began their “Sentimental Journey” at their wedding on July 3, 1950, in Princeton, IL. Buck and Jane celebrated their 63rd anniversary last week.
She survives along with two daughters Virginia (David) Price of Kewanee, Pat (Tom) Weeks of Neponset, three sons Mike (Arlene) Stone of Buda, George Stone of Sheffield, Tom (Lori) Stone of Sheffield and a daughter-in-law Roxanne Stone (Wife of the late Tim Stone) of Neponset.
Buck is also survived by twelve grandchildren who where a great source of pride for him: Michelle (Andy) DeFilippi and Kylie Stalides, Michael, Rachael and Amy Weeks, Cherie (Jeremy) House and Sarah (Chris) DeWaele, Angie (Chad) Fisher, Allison (Brandon) Behrens, Natalie (Miguel) Munoz, Trisha (Ellis) Ericson and Nikki Stone (Mike Wealer).
Buck is further survived by eighteen great grandchildren who became the light of his life: Cade and Holden Stalides, Jordan Porter, Elijah, Leah and Elise House, Lance, Layla and Hayven DeWaele, Carson and Kenzi Fisher, Beckham and Emory Behrens, Hope and Hannah Ericson and Wyatt and Whitney Wealer.
Those preceding Buck in death were his parents, Son Tim Stone two sisters Marjorie Reiff and Doris Stone, and nephew Paul Heberer.
Buck retired from Midland Coal Company in 1983. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army serving in A Battery, 324th Field Artillery Battalion attached to the 88th Cavalry and Armored Division serving in the European Theatre of Operation.
Buck was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church and the Neponset American Legion Post 875.
Buck enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling (especially with his wife) gardening and family time. He was also an avid and frustrated Cub’s fan.
Buck’s family would like to thank his doctors, the LaSalle Hospice team and Pastor Todd Krost.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, IL Rev. Richard Bishop will officiate. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, Neponset, IL. where military honors will be accorded by the Neponset American Legion Post 875. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Thursday, July 11th at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Sheffield United Methodist Church.
Buck was a wonderful, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Buck was an inspiration to his family and friends and will be missed by many.
