Helen Collins, 81, of Sterling, Ill and formerly of Kewanee died at 3:15 A.M. Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Coventry Living Center in Sterling, Il.
Helen was born June 18, 1932 in Sterling the daughter of John and Helene (Lauts) Itken. Helen grew up in Sterling and graduated from Sterling High School in 1950. She married Frank E. Collins in Sterling on June 18, 1954. The couple moved to Kewanee where her husband farmed and Helen was employed as a secretary for Kewanee School District for 32 years retiring in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers Lawrence, Harold, Lester and John.
Surviving is a nephew David Itken of Davenport, Ia., four nieces Donna Itken of Sterling, Joyce Beck, Jane Tietmeyer and Joan Herring all of Colorado and two sister-in-laws Helen Itken of Sterling and Betty Itken of Colorado.
Helen enjoyed farm life.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 12, 2013 in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee. Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe of the First Baptist Church of Kewanee will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Senior Citizen Center. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.
