Crystal M. Stoll, 98, of Kenosha, WI, formerly of Kewanee, IL, passed into eternal life on June 25, 2013 at Home Inspired Senior Living in Kenosha, WI.She was born December 15, 1914 in Tiskilwa, IL, the daughter of Fred and Pattie (Maupin) Farley. She married Erhardt F. Stoll on June 1, 1938, and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2005. Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl (Donald) Moe of Kenosha, WI, a sister-in-law, Bertha Moeller, and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ralph, and a daughter, Gloria.
Crystal was educated in various country schools near Tiskilwa, IL, and graduated high school there in 1933. She then went to Illinois State Normal University and received her Teacher’s certificate in 1935. She taught in country school houses in Bureau, Logan, and DeWitt counties before moving to Kewanee in 1948. In Kewanee she taught at Tibbetts School, and then at Belle Alexander, where she later became Principal. She earned her Master’s in Education from Illinois State University. After retiring from full-time teaching, she continued to do private tutoring and substitute teaching in both the public and parochial schools.
Besides her great love of education, Crystal was also very active in her church and community. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewanee for 56 years where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was involved with 4H for many years, and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher’s sorority. She enjoyed family activities, cooking and baking, fishing, sewing, quilting, and many different crafts, and was an equestrienne until her late 70’s. She loved story-telling, and had several short stories and articles published in magazines.
She moved to Kenosha, WI, with Erhardt in 2004 and joined Messiah Lutheran Church in June of that year. In Kenosha she participated in the RSVP Kenosha area program of multigenerational fairs, volunteered at Christ Lutheran Academy and was a KALEA board member, and continued as an active ADK member.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, June 29 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kewanee. Rev. Burnell Eckardt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, June 28 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee.
