Annette was born in Chicago in February 12, 1921 to George and Lillian (Lehman) Somer. She grew up on Chicago’s south side and came to know a medical student, Bill Larson. (Her father ‘accidentally’ invited him to a family picnic..) They married in 1945 and spent their first year or so in Bremerton, WA, as Dr. Larson was a medical officer at the Navy shipyards. In 1948, a small town (Annawan) was seeking a physician and let the young Dr. Larson use an office above the old bank building and a house for Doc and Annette to live in for a year. So, this young couple became a part of the community for the next 40 years. Their practice extended into rural areas near Annawan, where babies were born (with Annette’s help) in the kitchen or in the back of a snow plow enroute to the hospital. Their home included four children – Linda (Haar), Richard, Russel and Alan. Between all the kids, Annette was blessed with eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family attended Annawan United Methodist Church during that same 40 years, and Annette frequently helped man the kitchen for the Kiwanis Club. A couple years after Doc passed in 1987, Annette returned to the Chicago area to be near family and childhood friends. She lived for the next 22 years in Palos Heights and was active in her church, the PEO charity, and a local charity thrift shop – always to stop in at McDonalds for coffee and to share the day with the retired gals & guys who called her ‘Nettie’. Health and years caught up. Annette moved to Plano in 2011 to be near Alan. Her last days as a Texan could not take the Illinois out of her!
Survivors include: Lynn and Patrick Haar, son Eric, daughter Kristin (husband Joe Lazewski/ Jack and Kate); Rich and Jeanne, sons Nick (wife Tiah/ Lilly) and Justin; Russ and Debbie, son Mat, daughter Katie (husband Jack Woodworth/ Raylee); Alan and Peggy, son David and daughter Becca.
Annette is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers George and Howard Somer, husband Dr. Wm. D. Larson, and infant (Ellen -1953).
