Jerry M. Gustafson

Jerry M. Gustafson, 73, of Kewanee, passed away at 8:40 AM, Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at his home.Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 18 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday, May 17 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Schools Foundation.

He was born April 27, 1940 in Kewanee, the son of Edward and Florence (Nelson) Gustafson. He married Sharon Sturtevant on October 14, 1961 in Kewanee. She survives, as do five children, Jackie (Jorge) Franchi of Annandale, VA, Jill (Mike) Heinrich of Iowa City, IA, Chris (Christine) Gustafson and Craig (Margaret) Gustafson, both of Kewanee and Chad (Julie) Gustafson of Galesburg, a sister-in-law, Georgia Gustafson of Kewanee, nine grandchildren, Tommy and Jayne Heinrich, Matt, Ali and Lizzy Gustafson, Tori and Nick Gustafson and Jack and Nicole Franchi, several brothers-in-laws and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews and his two dogs, Olie and Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Kenny Nelson, Keith “Buck” Gustafson and Lee Heinz and four sisters, Blanche Haupt, Diane Griffin, Virginia Gabrielson and Alice Robinson.

Jerry was a graduate of Kewanee High School Class of 1958. He had worked as a route delivery and salesman for Meadow Gold Dairy, VandeVoorde’s and Boswell Distributing Co. until his retirement in 2002. He was an avid Kewanee Boiler fan and coached basketball at Central School for 30 years. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of Baker Park and the weekday senior golf group and had been Secretary of the Wednesday night golf league for many years. He was also a member of the Kewanee Golf Hall of Fame through Baker Park as a friend of golf and in the fall will be inducted into the Kewanee High School Sports Hall of Fame as a supporter of athletics. He thoroughly enjoyed following and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
