The Independence Day celebration begins Wednesday, July 3rd in Galva as the annual Galva Freedom Fest gets underway at Wiley Park. Beginning at 5 Wednesday afternoon Messiah Lutheran Church will start serving up pork chop sandwiches. The Garden Tractor Pull begins at 7 PM on the Memorial Track at the River Valley Co-op site on Southeast Second Street. There will be a beer garden from 8 to 10 PM downtown on Front Street, with entertainment provided by Eternity Road. On Thursday, activities kick off at 7 AM with the Galva Lions Club pancake breakfast. A 5K run/walk starts at 8. Other activities on the schedule Thursday include an antique tractor show, the Burns Boosters 4H petting zoo, the 3rd Annual Art Jam blacktop painting, FFA Cow Bingo, and a talent show. A local favorite from Kewanee, Joker’s Wild, will entertain from 6 to 9 Thursday evening. The Galva American Legion will post the colors at 7 o’clock, with fireworks following at dusk.
