The visit by the Walldogs to Kewanee is now just a little over two weeks away and an effort is underway to help clean up the downtown area in anticipation of that visit.
One such effort will take place Thursday evening beginning at 6 o’clock with a group meeting in front of Heartfelt Gifts at 224 north Main street to get directions and plans on where to start from there.
Volunteers are needed to help pull weeds, sweep sidewalks, flower box painting and other general maintenance chores.
Tools are also needed such as garden gloves, brooms, dust pans, rakes, leaf blowers, buckets for debris and other general tools.
Contact Sue at Heartfelt at 852-2296 or Dianne at 312-0168 for further information.
One of the many walldogs that will be painted in July will be on a two sided wall that is located near the old City Hall building not far from the Train Station in downtown Kewanee.
The city of Kewanee paid Laverdiere Construction of Macomb $38,500 to construct that wall which on one side will showcase a Welcome to Kewanee mural and will feature Fred Francis and the Woodland Palace on the other.
Mayor Bruce Tossell says the two sided wall is simply the City’s participation in the Walldogs which has been in place since the inception of the project…

Mayor Tossell adds that the expense for the work is in line with anticipated expenses the city incurs for economic development…
