37 year old Fred Yelm of Kewanee was sentenced to eight years in prison in Henry County Circuit Court on Friday on charges of aggravated driving under the influence that led to a death.

The sentence was handed down by Henry County Circuit Judge Richard Zimmer after Yelm had pled guilty in April.

Yelm was charged in connection with an accident that occurred on October 14th, 2012 at 517 East Division Street in Kewanee. That accident took the life of 37 year old Gary Vancil of Kewanee and injured Shane Armstrong.

Yelm was also ordered to have two years of mandatory supervised release, a fine of $500 plus court costs and restitution of $59,850.84, including $6,000 to Vancil's two daughters, and $47,104 in compensation to Shane Armstrong, for medical expenses.

Yelm must serve at least 85% of his sentence.
