Be Careful Cleaning Up After The Floods

State officials say people should be sure to protect themselves against possible disease as they prepare to clean up after recent floods.  Public Health Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck says flood waters can contaminate food, water, house appliances and just about anything it touches.  Flood water and sewer overflows can contain bacteria, fecal material, viruses and other organisms that may cause disease.  Those involved in the cleanup process should avoid skin contact with flood and sewer water, keep kids away from flood water and sewage backup, don't eat or drink anything exposed to flood and sewer water, keep contaminated objects away from your mouth, hands, and nose, and wash your hands frequently.
