Republican Bruce Rauner's call to cut the state's minimum wage has touched off a flurry of responses. The billionaire Rauner says cutting the minimum wage by a dollar to the federal level of seven-dollars-25-cents an hour would make the state more competitive. Democratic lawmaker Lou Lang blasted what he called Rauner's "pro-poverty plan," calling the notion delusional class warfare. A spokeswoman for Gov. Quinn called the idea "cruel and backwards." While none of the four Republicans seeking the nomination in the governor's race proposes raising the state's minimum wage, only Rauner suggests a cut. State Sen. Bill Brady says Rauner and Quinn, who favors an increase in the minimum wage, are "out of touch."
