Tornado victims in 15 counties across the state can get access to emergency food stamps. Those who live in a county that’s been declared a disaster area may be eligible to apply. To qualify, they must have had damage to their home or business, paid disaster-related expenses that were not reimbursed, or loss or reduction of income as a result of the storms on November 17th. Applicants must show proof of identity, proof of residence in a disaster area prior to the disaster, and any unreimbursed disaster expenses paid since the storm hit. Benefits will be provided based on total income and assets available to a household during the severe weather event. People who are already receiving SNAP benefits are also eligible to apply. Most benefits will be available within five days of the date of application. Applications for the emergency funding will be available next Wednesday, December 11th.
