A three vehicle accident Saturday afternoon just south of Kewanee has claimed the life of a Kewanee woman.
86 year old Lucille Kemerling was pronounced dead at 1:34 Saturday afternoon after an accident that occurred at 12:50 Saturday afternoon.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by 31 year old Bradly Simmons of Kewanee was southbound on Route 78 and stopped while waiting to turn in to Flex Court Athletics.
The Simmons vehicle was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by 18 year old Destiny Gibson of Toulon which caused the Simmons vehicle to overturn and land in the northbound lane.
A north bound vehicle driven by 86 year old Monroe Kemerling of Kewanee swerved to avoid the accident but went into a ditch hitting a culvert.
The Kemerling vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest. Mrs. Kemerling was pronounced dead at the scene while Mr. Kemerling was treated and released at OSF St Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.
Simmons was taken to OSF St Luke Medical Center for treatment of injuries and was ticketed for no insurance.
Gibson refused treatment and was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The accident remains under investigation.
